Go Min-si’s Debut and Acting Journey
Before becoming an actress, Go Min-si has begun a career as a wedding planner. Still, she changed her career path when she entered the Korean film industry by directing a short movie titled Parallel Novel (2016), where she also played a double role as an actress. The movie gained positive recognition as it won the Grand Prize in the Three Minutes Film Festival. Up to this point, Go Min-si’s appearances in dramas are just strictly as a supporting role, even when she also appeared in top-rated dramas such as Welcome to Waikiki and Live. Once again, she appeared on the big screen by starring in supporting roles for films like Cheese in the Trap and The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, both in 2018. She also proved her skills as an actress when she won the Popular Star Award at the 7th Korea Best Star Awards and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 55th Grand Bell Awards. She continued to star on the big screen through the historical film The Battle: Roar to Victory (2019), where she played an important supporting role. She then proceeded with her TV career by starring Kim So-hyun’s cousin on Netflix, Love Alarm (2019), where she started gaining global recognition. Although her popularity was starting to rise because of Love Alarm, it was her role in Secret Boutique (2019), the role that most made her name known to the public, where she appeared alongside experienced actresses such as Kim Sun-a and Chang Mi-hee. Due to this role, she won Best New Actress at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards. In 2020, she starred in the Netflix webtoon-based drama Sweet Home (2020), where she showcased a strong acting skill. Although she has only played in dramas as a supporting role a few times, Go Min-Messi’s career is predicted to shine even more. Go Min-si’s Appearances in Dramas
Although Go Min-si first debuted and entered the film industry as a short film director, her career as an actress brought fame to her name. She has appeared in several popular dramas and movies, but it was only in 2019 that she started to snatch the more important role where she caught the public attention. Below are some of her most notable dramas to date!
Drama – Love Alarm (Netflix, 2019)
Since its first episode, the Netflix series Love Alarm has successfully captured the hearts of Korean drama lovers. The love story typical of high school kids made the audience feel excited and bored too. Airing with eight episodes, Love Alarm features various rising star names such as Kim So-hyun, Song Kang, and Jung Ga-ram as the main characters. Love Alarm was adapted from the webtoon series by Chon Kye-kyong, which tells the story of a love-seeking application. In online comic stories, the app will notify the user if someone likes or is interested in the app owner within a certain distance. Similarly, the drama Love Alarm also shows the phenomenon in a society that is now starting to look for love with the help of the application. Within a 10 meter radius, users will know who likes themselves through the application. Although the series mainly focuses on the love story of the three main characters, it was not to say that all the supporting characters just faded into the background. For Go Min-si’s case, her character still charmingly shines through the role of Park Gul-mi, the cousin of Kim So-hyun’s character. Park Gul-mi is portrayed to be a popular student, but she is so arrogant. Gul-mi a cute character, but sometimes she acted foolishly. She also has a great fashion style, which is similar to Go Min-si’s in real life. In an interview, Go Min-si described Gul-mi’s character by saying, “Gul-Mi was the most challenging character. When I interpreted Gul-Mi, she wasn’t just evil. And I hope people also know this. I think she wasn’t a simple character. Because she has her own reasons, but she is clumsy to express her feelings. Sometimes she’s pitiful and sad. So I wanted to express these things, but it wasn’t easy to express her various feelings. All my characters (that I acted) aren’t easy so far. Every character was difficult, and I always think deeply about each of them.” Check out Go Min-si’s portrayal of the character in the fanmade MV below!
